Hello, I am looking for information on Mary Ellen McCabe. Some documents show her birth place as Englad others say Michigan. Her parents are Richard and Francis McCabe who I believe lived in Michigan.
Mary Ellen married John Wesley Smith February 8,1886 in Tuscararo Ontario.
The couple lived in Sanilac Michigan. A border crossing shows Mary going to Pontiac.
Their daughter Mary Elizabith Smith was born 1888 Sanilac.
Mary Ellen's husband - John Wesley Smith -according to his death certificate died
May 8, 1929 in Pontiac. His death certificate has a few errors such as listing his mother with his wife's name.
Any assistance would be most appreciated, Debra Currie
(hoping that I have posted this correctly)

Hi Debra,

I am not having great success at the moment here at home to find anything on Mary Ellen McCabe Smith but I did find the following in our Cemetery records. I know you said John Wesley Smith died in Pontiac but there is a John W Smith that died the same year. Now if you can tell me when they live in Sanilac County do you have any idea where? I did find a Mary Ellen Smith and a Mary Elizabeth Smith but have no idea if they are you family. I did not find a Richard or Francis McCabe, but if you know anything about where in Sanilac County they might of been that would help. I have Local History books of a lot of the areas here in Sanilac which have information on the early settlers. I have looked at a few with no luck. I will do more searching for you at the Museum on Wed. maybe someone has done a family history on your family. Have a great day!!! Talk to you soon. Kathy Wedyke, Genealogy and Local History Chair.

Hi Kathy, thank you for doing all of this. I am from Nova Scotia and I do not have any knowledge of Sanilac Michigan. I know that some documents mention Washington Sanilac County. As far as the cemetery records that you found: my John Wesley Smith was born in 1858. His daughter Mary Elizabeth married a Francis Atkinson and was living and died in Hamilton Ontario. The Mary Ellen doesnt look as though she would be old enough.
Thank you again for taking the time to help me, Debra

Hi Debbie, you are very welcome, sorry nothing matched but now that you told me a little more I will look a little longer. There is a Washington Township and Washington Cemetery here in Sanilac County so let me dig a little deeper. Debra have you found any of them in any Census? Well, give me a little time to see if I can find them. Well, keep your fingers crossed and maybe it will bring me luck. :)
